If you follow my other blog Bridget's Daughter than you'll know why, if you don't follow it-why not? LOL</span><br />
<div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> I'm sure most of you have grown tomato's before, but I had a request to write about this so I am, for you wonderful pro's just skip this blog-but come back later! And as you all know I love to answer question, get your idea's or learn from you!</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Tomatoes like a nice warm area in full sun, and need at least eight hours of sunlight a day, or they get spindly and produce little mature fruit. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> You'll want soil that will hold water as evenly as possible because uneven uptake of water can cause all kinds of problems with tomatoes including: <u>flower drop, fruit splitting and blossom-end rot.</u></span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Honestly I think the three most important things you need to do to grow wonderful, tasty tomato's is lot's of sunshine, good organic filled soil, and water consistently.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> My mother has a friend that grows them in concrete blocks, you know the ones with two big holes in them? I believe that she has them sitting on her porch. My Dad plants them in flower pots then bury's the pot's, IDK why but it works!</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> I have grown them in both pot's and in ground. I like both ways. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> I'm also a big believer in pairing them with certain other plants,one is pairing it with the herb Borage is an annual, edible herb with blue star-shaped flowers. The leaves can be used in salads. It improves tomato plant health and even makes them taste better. Borage also repels the tomato horn-worm, the bane of many a tomato grower.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Another pairing is with young dill . Young dill also improves the health and growth of tomato plants. Be sure to remove the dill before it is mature, because it will actually have the opposite effect and stunt tomato growth.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Basil is not just great in tomato sauce. The plant is also able to ward off spider mites, aphids, and white flies. You will have better pollination results, it attracts bees.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Try planting any member of the Umbilliferae family near your tomatoes. Members are, among others : parsnip, carrots, Queen Anne’s Lace, and parsley. These plants attract hover flies, which go after many tomato pests. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> You shouldn't need pesticides with them around. Also Marigolds are good for keeping pest away, Plant them around your whole garden.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> If you grow alot of tomato's or have a big garden a natural way to restore the soil is to plant Hairy Vetch (Vicia villosa), a nitrogen-fixing legume, in your garden bed in the fall.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> In the spring, cut it down and till the residue into the soil. This provides both nitrogen and an instant mulch that preserves moisture.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> And last, many tomato diseases reside in the soil and affect peppers, eggplants, potatoes, and other crops in the nightshade (Solanaceae) family. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> To break the disease cycle, and to help get rid of the disease-causing organisms, rotate tomatoes with unrelated crops, such as corn, beans or lettuce.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Here's a list of a few different types of tomato's:</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">1)<b><u><span style="color: #274e13;">Roma</span></u></b>, tomatoes are plum-shaped or oval tomatoes that are typically smaller than common slicing tomatoes. When picked up, the Roma tends to weigh more than expected because of its thick, dense flesh. A 2-inch long Roma can weigh up to 4 oz., with some versions of this tomato reaching weights as high as 12 oz. Romas are ideal for making tomato sauces and ketchup because of their dense flesh and low water content.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">2)<b><i><u><span style="color: #274e13;">Sun Gold</span></u></i></b> tomato is a popular indeterminate variety of hybrid tomato, meaning that it continues to produce fruit until the weather no longer allows it. These cherry tomatoes are an especially sweet variety that work well for sun drying and ripen to a bright orange color.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">3)<b><i><u><span style="color: #274e13;">Beefsteak</span></u></i></b> tomato is perhaps the most common slicing tomato there is. These large tomatoes are dark red in color, full of juice and often weigh more than a pound.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">4)<b><i><u><span style="color: #274e13;">Brandywine</span></u></i></b> tomato is a popular, pale-red tomato with a tangy taste, many varieties of which are open-pollinated heirloom tomatoes.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> This is just a short list, we'd be here all day if I tried to name them all.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> I hope you liked this article today, I feel like I didn't give you enough information but couldn't decide what else to tell you. If you have anything to add</span><i style="font-size: xx-large; text-decoration: underline;"> please</i><span style="font-size: x-large;"> let me know. Until we met again.....</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><br />

<div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> So this year I had forgotten all about starting my seeds for my Cosmos. Until I got free seed packets of them in my mail. I planted them this last weekend, they grow pretty fast and I love the way they look like their "dancing" in the breeze.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Cosmos are prized for their abundant, silky, daisy like flowers and their unflappable, easy-care nature in the garden. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> While bedding plants are sold in spring, cosmos are simple and inexpensive to grow from seeds. Plant them in full sun (in very hot regions, cosmos can take afternoon shade) and give them protection from strong winds. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Cosmos tolerates a wide range of soil types, including poor soil. Plants need even moisture to get started, but mature cosmos are drought tolerant; plants produce more and larger flowers, however, if they are watered regularly.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> SEEDS OR PLANTS?</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Either sow cosmos seeds outdoors after danger of frost has passed, or for an early start on summer blooms, sow seeds indoors four to five weeks before the last spring-frost date. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Plant cosmos in full sun and protect them from strong winds. Space plants approximately two feet apart; with tall cosmos, space plants closer than the recommended two feet and let them support each other. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Both germination and growth are fast, but cosmos plants are frost tender, so don’t be in a rush. Cosmos are light sensitive and don’t bloom their best until late summer, when the days grow shorter.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">CULTIVATION</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Move these heat-loving annuals to the garden after danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Cosmos need light soil with average to poor fertility that has a neutral or slightly alkaline pH and is well-drained. Soil that is too rich yields weak-stemmed, sparsely flowered plants that bloom late and flop over, so avoid soil that has been heavily amended, and don’t feed the plants. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Tall cosmos sometimes require staking to prevent their thick, hollow stems from breaking due to heavy rain or wind. Instead of staking, a gardener may also space plants closer than the recommended two feet and have the plants support each other.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">GROWING TIPS</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Pinch off spent flowers to encourage continuous bloom. Pinching stem tips can reduce height and encourage branching but isn't necessary. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Deadheading is recommended since it lengthens the bloom season. Cosmos plants that aren’t deadheaded will self-sow in warm regions. Typical plant height for cosmos is one to five feet.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_wXdCBut3U9ESed0OnYDDAKIyMwg5OEcmsF-YXnVzAW3alRf3zc88cE4aOVeNTHsrsRQgDjArNSBee1zxPgBuf0c2UrbWETrCZhHqHmf-2_Aqoax3u3WX6T2TNxVSLSSVoIO9yPhbjjyP/s1600/Cosmos_flower_(species_unknown).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_wXdCBut3U9ESed0OnYDDAKIyMwg5OEcmsF-YXnVzAW3alRf3zc88cE4aOVeNTHsrsRQgDjArNSBee1zxPgBuf0c2UrbWETrCZhHqHmf-2_Aqoax3u3WX6T2TNxVSLSSVoIO9yPhbjjyP/s320/Cosmos_flower_(species_unknown).JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMQy1Ez7Z_U6fOsTxkhKV-8XTbUmGuMxMQhqCm5oXEF6n_BsQT-WdPZ7eK9wm25ZRy7Fg8jBJ_-cVwC1B4gzlYBREfg9BjOYv0Ytrh_DOLXoKtX9PiHks1sWzY6xEpXIw21MXtFkoKEuGM/s1600/chocolate-cosmos-flowers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMQy1Ez7Z_U6fOsTxkhKV-8XTbUmGuMxMQhqCm5oXEF6n_BsQT-WdPZ7eK9wm25ZRy7Fg8jBJ_-cVwC1B4gzlYBREfg9BjOYv0Ytrh_DOLXoKtX9PiHks1sWzY6xEpXIw21MXtFkoKEuGM/s320/chocolate-cosmos-flowers.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYpi6IyFev1sNwzvekC_s2vunT3dIFhX06zAsabtYY4mEGXQwzMAuBL9z1gcRhg9E80qBxQqrblyHOz_Q6FRISTSXUv0U2_7kIaeMVSVdeJwK-TTSV51AppWQWFnJVHduJIK-FLwJkoD9r/s1600/Cosmos-Flower-Wallpaper-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYpi6IyFev1sNwzvekC_s2vunT3dIFhX06zAsabtYY4mEGXQwzMAuBL9z1gcRhg9E80qBxQqrblyHOz_Q6FRISTSXUv0U2_7kIaeMVSVdeJwK-TTSV51AppWQWFnJVHduJIK-FLwJkoD9r/s320/Cosmos-Flower-Wallpaper-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5_G2DiaOPrXvuAevH1W_AXoXomH9NnzARnyOYWYGtYmgehxx6SGLeW2SBy_l1G9lIenAjLIhnY9lutNlvhwnT_Ijumum0QZ_KqQCbxPeHSvGOxkoIsIq8YyWrdtYibSeXJ6It9liX2-Ao/s1600/pink-cosmos-flower.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5_G2DiaOPrXvuAevH1W_AXoXomH9NnzARnyOYWYGtYmgehxx6SGLeW2SBy_l1G9lIenAjLIhnY9lutNlvhwnT_Ijumum0QZ_KqQCbxPeHSvGOxkoIsIq8YyWrdtYibSeXJ6It9liX2-Ao/s320/pink-cosmos-flower.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />

I think their both beautiful but I personally would go with the bush-I can always find room for a bush, but an arbor or something for a vine to grow up isn't as easy.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Either way I'll tell you all you need to know to grow them:</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> <u><span style="color: #274e13;">Instructions</span></u></span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">1)Place your jasmine in full sun and out of low-lying areas, which trap cold air. While this plant tolerates light shade, it needs warmth.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">2)</span><span style="font-size: x-large;">Plant your jasmine shrub in a pot and take it out to the garden in the summer, unless you live in a tropical or subtropical climate. In that case, grow your jasmine outdoors year-round.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><div>3)Space jasmine plants 8 feet apart in borders. </div><div>4)Irrigate your jasmine shrub from the bottom if it's in a pot. Place the planter in a deep tray of water and let the soil absorb the moisture through the drainage holes. Allow it to dry between watering. </div><div>5)Pinch off jasmine flower buds to encourage larger blooms and to control where the blossoms will appear.</div><div>6)Prune your jasmine plant throughout the year to control its growth and to keep it to the shape you want. In addition, cut branches that become entangled with one another just before spring growth begins. </div><div>7)Dilute some indoor plant fertilizer to half strength and mix 1 gallon of the mixture with 1 tablespoon of liquid kelp. Water your jasmine plant and allow the excess water to run out of the drainage holes, if planted in a pot. Feed it 2 cups of the fertilizing formula you prepared. Repeat this step once a month. When it begins to get cool in October, reduce applications to ½ cup of fertilizer a month.</div><div>8)Bring potted shrubs indoors in the fall before the first freeze. Place them in a well-lit and warm location during the day, but which also gets dark in the evening. Exposure to the day's sun promotes foliage and flower production throughout the winter while the evening darkness encourages the plant to make new buds.</div><div>9)Repot the jasmine shrub in late spring. By then, your plant should have grown enough to need a planter one size bigger. In preparation for transplanting it, reduce the water and stop fertilization in early spring. When the plant is in its new pot, mulch the soil surface with compost and prune long branches to induce a bushy habit. Move the plant outdoors for another summer.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLfIpZ7b9HpUVDLxR6Bksu6xFz7gmI61eZ6f3TLZ68ZtvbW5dhO7U5PZTYtbgVnH3xvJkcpzIOChyphenhyphenIDlVeSKGANYQjH6J1hl6cJtAwlqx_uZqovv2fA1c20ApqV4k_OTj6vqCBitc3Eu5n/s1600/jasminebush.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLfIpZ7b9HpUVDLxR6Bksu6xFz7gmI61eZ6f3TLZ68ZtvbW5dhO7U5PZTYtbgVnH3xvJkcpzIOChyphenhyphenIDlVeSKGANYQjH6J1hl6cJtAwlqx_uZqovv2fA1c20ApqV4k_OTj6vqCBitc3Eu5n/s400/jasminebush.jpg" width="382" /></a></div><div> <u><span style="color: #274e13;">Jasmine, the vine</span></u></div><div><div>Jasmine is a woody perennial vine grown outdoors in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 8 through 10 and indoors in colder climates. Also known as Confederate Jasmine or by its scientific name of Trachelospermum jasminoides, the flowers have a pleasant jasmine fragrance and will grow on a fence or trellis.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Step 1</div><div>Locate the plants in full sun to partial shade if planted in the garden or in a container outdoors. The vine thrives indoors on indirect light throughout the summer but needs at least 4 hours of direct sunlight in the winter. Indoor plants can be placed outdoors in the summer, but don't place them in direct sun at first or they will burn.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Step 2</div><div>Water as soon the top of the soil feels dry during the spring and summer. Occasional misting should be done with distilled water when the air is particularly dry in the summer. In the fall, water the plant once every other week and cut back watering to once a month in the winter. Place indoor plants on a tray filled with pebbles and water. Do not allow the plant to sit directly in the water, just on top of the pebbles. This will provide the plant its required humidity.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Step 3</div><div>Apply a well-balanced fertilizer made for acid-loving plants once a month beginning in the spring. Discontinue fertilizing in mid-fall and begin again the following spring.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Step 4</div><div>Prune and thin straggly branches in the spring after blooming has finished to promote a bushier plant. In the winter, cut off any dead or diseased branches. Cut the plant back for shaping after the last frost. Do not cut more than 1/3 of the vine at any one time.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFMPny2lxf0c5m4Ie1XHDSgtEmuFn0sz4tj1nYO6zYMLjNSoVP5ziJMDgrn08cv59gHIJzzl08iRslzuitrAKDTjwLBkZ-Gal_zlji-NrgBKcx3S-SiQmWuLU35nAjE3ZwzlAdt6PeLOM-/s1600/jasminevines.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFMPny2lxf0c5m4Ie1XHDSgtEmuFn0sz4tj1nYO6zYMLjNSoVP5ziJMDgrn08cv59gHIJzzl08iRslzuitrAKDTjwLBkZ-Gal_zlji-NrgBKcx3S-SiQmWuLU35nAjE3ZwzlAdt6PeLOM-/s400/jasminevines.jpg" width="292" /></a></div><div><br />

My kids loved "petting" them.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> I don't know if you've ever seen or felt these plants before but they are really sweet to have, yes they feel like a lambs ear and are more ground cover than a regular plant though they aren't classified as ground cover. Here's all the information.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Requires a well-drained soil; doesn't require fertile soil. Plant in (ideal) full sun to partial afternoon shade (especially in hot and humid areas). If planted in too much shade, plants may have trouble with foliage problems. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Avoid getting water on the leaves, especially in the afternoon, since that may cause rot problems. Because lamb's ear is not valued for its flowers(though I like the flowers), you may want to deadhead or remove flowers so that the foliage can be seen. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Prune out brown leaves or sections as needed, and new growth will fill in. Primarily propagated through division or seed. No serious problems with pests or diseases, but might have foliage disease when exposed to hot and humid conditions.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> You can put them in the front of your flower beds since they don't grow overly tall or put them in a place where you have trouble growing anything else(remember they will spread!). I've even seen them grown in pots, these plants are so easy going they don't care where you put them!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs-nfV5pfhVnYhTB2ZJmTutmhKKN6zCMh7Ls6cML8NxZ5PhXa2gYyyoL_PBP-qYbdEHQva4ZbMBjQDoVkjLBR47gt5L-d2PXiseoI7nXhtMpyCqAHrU-ft4JykEBtN_wyfIOxZKvIVGQlb/s1600/lambs+ear.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs-nfV5pfhVnYhTB2ZJmTutmhKKN6zCMh7Ls6cML8NxZ5PhXa2gYyyoL_PBP-qYbdEHQva4ZbMBjQDoVkjLBR47gt5L-d2PXiseoI7nXhtMpyCqAHrU-ft4JykEBtN_wyfIOxZKvIVGQlb/s320/lambs+ear.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_tbH-GTri98_ro-su7fG1EPeSHOMvX0mxb4uK7w6MCiy-jhkwXWRiZLJPSqkeL6-IRrG-TvEyV9reo6AOg8n6ukCN5JW9kUsVQU7LBeYrDOnegxUakhp2QzlJbCKaWw8YUTvImGgzEe0b/s1600/Lambsear2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_tbH-GTri98_ro-su7fG1EPeSHOMvX0mxb4uK7w6MCiy-jhkwXWRiZLJPSqkeL6-IRrG-TvEyV9reo6AOg8n6ukCN5JW9kUsVQU7LBeYrDOnegxUakhp2QzlJbCKaWw8YUTvImGgzEe0b/s320/Lambsear2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeC1aZ50wkUwrDMKoKddax8LEGC51QKAjZCACyTDJfLE8ycCnj-v4m-zwHIuK10cxuF9VZkqlt9pa8Uu3K56BmTfGlLsAKACxq9XNJdygrKJmzZfmVm7cyiX5Bq06xxg9lIvSMWZeQXphyphenhyphen/s1600/lambsear4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeC1aZ50wkUwrDMKoKddax8LEGC51QKAjZCACyTDJfLE8ycCnj-v4m-zwHIuK10cxuF9VZkqlt9pa8Uu3K56BmTfGlLsAKACxq9XNJdygrKJmzZfmVm7cyiX5Bq06xxg9lIvSMWZeQXphyphenhyphen/s320/lambsear4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><br />

Life has been crazy here and unforgivably my garden blog has been put off over and over again.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> At least I didn't delete it like I did my woman's blog (the forum is still going strong though)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> So today was the first nice weekend we've had for so long and I got out there and worked in my yard-nothing beats stress like yard work!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> I planted some more Lilac bushes, in my opinion you can never have to many! Also planted two more Ballerina bushes.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> What is a Ballerina bush you ask? The Ballerina rose bush, a modern shrub rose, has pink rose flowers that looks like Hydrangea heads.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> The pink flowers look somewhat like apple blooms, and they put on quite a show when spring arrives. </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">Everyone who comes to my house is drawn to this rose bush because it looks so different from other roses.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> There are hundreds of lovely small single light pink flowers that totally covers this rose bush. </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">There is only a mild musky rose fragrance, but for this rose, the flower show more than makes up for it(they look awesome alone, or as a hedge, I love them behind my picket fence.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhonQ3DB24O1iedvPLtx9F-uKQUBzEXDmAt5VvsnVtBXUSqvbH6sqc723X-iKTJ8-my2qr8UexIfk3CQkgnUXG_CqNvpxU8tNV9tOT3KN2eJijFZCim5yydnAqwdOuHoWqLOM9-hKz5Jnv8/s1600/Ballerinashrubbush.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhonQ3DB24O1iedvPLtx9F-uKQUBzEXDmAt5VvsnVtBXUSqvbH6sqc723X-iKTJ8-my2qr8UexIfk3CQkgnUXG_CqNvpxU8tNV9tOT3KN2eJijFZCim5yydnAqwdOuHoWqLOM9-hKz5Jnv8/s400/Ballerinashrubbush.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> There is short pause after the show-stopping first bloom flush, with repeat blooms </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">all summer, and then a good second bloom flush in the fall. </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">It has a graceful rounded growth habit and lots of medium green healthy foliage.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> This is a very easy to care for rose, that doesn't require a lot of maintenance, if any.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIxh5nciSH_MGo1BrHA34CgeBS8wXq-fL2dW323fCCWFLbmboWK-HL4V5fSN0bnVEyaogZ86ooMPcZnlja5p8apNFXjHPBeIsusdiPQpPuUPqjd-5vQ4jJb4Ycw2-Wksioi7fFbQTKy4I5/s1600/loneballerinashrubrose.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIxh5nciSH_MGo1BrHA34CgeBS8wXq-fL2dW323fCCWFLbmboWK-HL4V5fSN0bnVEyaogZ86ooMPcZnlja5p8apNFXjHPBeIsusdiPQpPuUPqjd-5vQ4jJb4Ycw2-Wksioi7fFbQTKy4I5/s400/loneballerinashrubrose.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The 'Ballerina' bush in the picture above is a fairly newly planted shrub.</span><span style="font-size: x-large;">I will grow to about four or five feet if allowed.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> It is easy to cut it down to keep this rose a bit smaller. </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">Ballerina doesn't mind being pruned to reduce the size if needed, although I think its natural size and shape is really graceful.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: x-large;"> In the fall select a site that's sunny and well drained. Clear away any weeds or debris and mix perlite into the soil to about eighteen inches. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> If you buy all ready potted plants(as opposed to starting your own) buy them with three to four heave/thick canes and avoid any that are lose in the soil-it means their probably not well rooted.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> They need full sun or partial shade as long as they get at least four hours of sun a day. Fertile well drained soil is about all they really need fertilize a couple times a year. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> Have a great weekend, see you here tomorrow for picture day! Until we meet again!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">P.S. My mother in law had trouble with her Peony's last year turning yellow and not blooming, we tried an old cure I learned from my grandmother and that was to cut them all the way down-like you do in the fall-and then sprinkling baking soda on them, they came back beautiful this spring. Also don't forget to give your rosebushes some Epsom salts before it rains this spring for the most awesome flowers!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> Hello friends, wow I hope all of you are having better or at least nicer weather than we are here in Indiana.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> OK so today I want to talk about Inulas-or as my oldest called them when she was young fake daisy's. For once these aren't my favorite flowers but they are really nice, easy to grow, add color and the best part easy perrenials to grow from seeds.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> <b>How to grow Inulas</b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> Seeds of Inulas can be planted either at the beginning of autumn or before the last frost of spring; once sown the sees should be lightly covered with soil. Inulas like to grow in sunny areas of the garden that have good drainage, the soil type is not important.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> If you first plan to grow Inulas seedlings indoors then they should be prepared about six to seven weeks before the last frost of spring. The seeds will take anywhere from two to six weeks to germinate. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> Once ready the young Inulas plants should be transplanted into the garden following the last frost of spring at a spacing of about eighteen inches.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">To create more plants they can be divided in the spring or autumn. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> It's easy to look after Inulas, simply keep the soil moist and cut back the stems after flowering has finished in the autumn. It is necessary to divide the plants every three years or so to maintain plant vigor.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> I fell in lover with Gerber Daisy's when I was given one after my oldest was born. Most people us them as house plants, but I love growing them in my garden too, so here are some easy steps to take if you want to grow them yourself.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> <b><i><u><span style="color: #274e13;">Planting & Caring for Gerber Daisy Plants</span></u></i></b></span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><div> It’s simple to pick up a pack or two of Gerber Daisy plant seeds to sow at home. They add variety and pops of color to your home’s flower/vegetable garden outside and pretty floral accents inside.</div><div> Remember: plant Gerbera seeds in SPRING after any frost has passed.Areas with full to partial sun are best for growing </div><div> Carefully choose four to six seeds from the packet Use a spade to set them two-and-a-half inches deep and at least a foot apart in healthy enriched soil. </div><div> Water immediately; water seeds daily to keep soil moist around your daisies – but don’t water so much that soil becomes muddy.Fertilize every two weeks with all-purpose water-soluble fertilizer.</div><div> Water regularly to make sure the soil stays evenly moist while they bloom. After blooming for the season, allow them to dry out slightly. I let them stay where they are all winter (like I do all annuls so they will self seed). </div><div> Remove dead blooms with garden shears to encourage the gerberas to keep blooming for as long as possible.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtIAVyGDFI66gPpyyB5hxrfhQgX43tmVY8A9cXMgCtzu1tgRqQZFlBg676lK512-XtbmetPH47MkpGSmsk_kMzZrmUWbjRoG-MTa84GYrg_aILiOStZ15BOdRd_c7yuzI0m7KMY27xXTsn/s1600/gerberdaisy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtIAVyGDFI66gPpyyB5hxrfhQgX43tmVY8A9cXMgCtzu1tgRqQZFlBg676lK512-XtbmetPH47MkpGSmsk_kMzZrmUWbjRoG-MTa84GYrg_aILiOStZ15BOdRd_c7yuzI0m7KMY27xXTsn/s400/gerberdaisy.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbKj0vKSpeYHOVrBu4c_0s_a1itcKUjJ2FE3RqrFrTFs9G5URJ7aG3cLyEPG_8yB3REopBMlZxfaQSYiYODagmiAWTCOF35drSleZfN0rMS7DYSh0FwC91mHYo-qAByNtruFsQLbecZu_i/s1600/gerberdaisys2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbKj0vKSpeYHOVrBu4c_0s_a1itcKUjJ2FE3RqrFrTFs9G5URJ7aG3cLyEPG_8yB3REopBMlZxfaQSYiYODagmiAWTCOF35drSleZfN0rMS7DYSh0FwC91mHYo-qAByNtruFsQLbecZu_i/s400/gerberdaisys2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtGofj5zEFM6hptMlhnnEQUbBPuX9B5VhLtRrCf3iUFQ0D3Nv7gBQA59NMvgb6bzeTlSCcrZ_aRc_CYLeEdgjWR62MEpy-CKZzI3-DHKdNUIBpmqRe0h-sV4QkthB6aLOyg7e1mqwlaz_a/s1600/gerberdaisys3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtGofj5zEFM6hptMlhnnEQUbBPuX9B5VhLtRrCf3iUFQ0D3Nv7gBQA59NMvgb6bzeTlSCcrZ_aRc_CYLeEdgjWR62MEpy-CKZzI3-DHKdNUIBpmqRe0h-sV4QkthB6aLOyg7e1mqwlaz_a/s400/gerberdaisys3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><br />

I can't help it!) </span> <span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> Daisies are simple yet sophisticated and are some of the most beautiful flowers in the floral world. </span><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> Daisies convey cheer and exuberance in spades. Not surprisingly, daisies are popular both for gifting and growing in gardens. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> <b><u><span style="color: #274e13;"> </span></u></b></span><b><u><span style="color: #274e13; font-size: x-large;">Shasta Daisy</span></u></b></div><div> </div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> With their white petals surrounding yellow centers, they are similar to the meadow daisy, but have larger and more abundant blooms.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> <b><u><span style="color: #274e13;">About This Plant</span></u></b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> Shasta daisies bloom over a period, from early summer until fall, forming tidy clumps from two to three feet tall and up to two feet across. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> The bright flowers contrast nicely with the glossy, dark green foliage, livening up any garden bed. The flowers are great for cutting!</span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><div> <b><u><span style="color: #274e13;"> Special Features</span></u></b></div><div>Easy care/low maintenance</div><div><span style="font-family: inherit;">Attracts butterflies</span></div><div> <b><u><span style="color: #274e13;"> Site Selection</span></u></b></div><div> Select a site with full sun and well-drained soil.</div><div> <b><u><span style="color: #274e13;"> Planting Instructions</span></u></b></div><div> Plant in spring, spacing plants one to two feet apart, depending on the variety. Prepare the garden bed by using a garden fork or tiller to loosen the soil to a depth of twelve to fifteen inches, then mix in a two to four-inch layer of compost.</div><div> Dig a hole twice the diameter of the pot the plant is in. Carefully remove the plant from its container and place it in the hole so the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Carefully fill in around the root ball and firm the soil gently. Water thoroughly.</div><div> <b><u><span style="color: #274e13;">Care</span></u></b></div><div> Apply a thin layer of compost each spring, followed by a two-inch layer of mulch to retain moisture and control weeds. </div><div> Water plants during the summer if rainfall is less than one inch per week. Stake tall varieties to keep them upright. </div><div> After the first killing frost, cut stems back to an inch or two above soil line. A tough, durable, low-maintenance that's native to the western U.S. Two to three feet tall and two feet wide.</span></div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Prefers a well-drained site. Tolerates dry, sandy coastal soils. Does not perform well in heavy clay soils and will not last in these conditions through winter.<br />
Plant in full sun. Will be floppy and require staking. Divide plants every three to five years in spring for best performance.<br />
Benefits by deadheading to encourage rebloom throughout the season. Propagated through seed or division. Self sows. We also call these Mexican sunflowers.<br />

<b><u>Shrub Rose:</u></b><br />
<br />
Shrub roses are generally tall (four to twelve feet), shrubby plants that produce numerous arching canes. <br />
Their flowers can be single, semi-double, or double and are borne singly or in clusters both at the ends of the canes and on side branches.<br />
Planting shrub roses: Space about four to six feet apart, closer when grown as hedges.<br />
Poor shrub roses aren't defined as any certain kind of plant, what they are is a mixture of two or three kinds of plants mixed together--I don't care I love them, and I already had mine.<br />
<br />

I had all of these plants except the grass before I began this project, you know I collect the seeds but I also have found that if you winterize your plants well enough they will usually make it through most winters.<br />

Their beautiful and I love to cut some of the branches and bring them inside along with Lilac's. It's the best flower arrangement there is!</span><br />
<div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Once you plant them they are one of the easiest bushes out there. Just follow along and see for yourself!</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The Snowball Bush is commonly grown as an ornamental plant for its flowers(I LOVE the flowers!) and berries. This flowering shrub makes a great focal point for the center of a large yard, or for the corner of a foundation. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> This flowering shrub will grow large, up to twelve feet tall and fifteen feet wide and prefers moist, humus-rich, moderately alkaline soil that drains well. It does well in sun or partial shade.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The Snowball Bush is easy to care for and maintain. Feed with a water soluble fertilizer or granulated fertilizer just prior to it blooming in the spring and keep the soil moist by applying mulch.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> If you choose to prune this bush, do it after the flowers fall off in early summer.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Snowball Bushes will create a beautiful spring and fall display in any landscape. In the late spring, this shrub will be covered with masses of pure white snow-ball(hence the name) like flower clusters and its leaves turn purplish red before dropping in the fall.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> How To Plant Snowball Bush(so easy!)</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Remove and discard grass and weeds from the planting site. Dig a hole that is shallow and broad – about three times the diameter of the root ball, but no deeper than the root ball.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Carefully remove the bush from its container, and using your hands, gently loosen any outside roots from the sides and bottom, taking care not to break or damage the roots of the bush. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Place the bush in the center of the hole so the root crown (where the trunk meets the roots) is about one and a half to two inches above the surrounding ground level. Put the dirt back and some compost(well I do), pack it in and water it so that it helps pack it and gives it a drink!</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><br />
</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Spread mulch or wood chips about four inches deep over the entire planting area to help retain moisture and cut down on weeds.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> See told you it was easy!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaMh_G_M6n_moor8a4tJPIu7yj-7bJPEeK9gK4zFVGPlgnhpct3dHikpO0qqgGfa8v7F3d7VJqY1Y0dB5khaMxHnL3XgCsV8WghNenbEBECGalpWFbc0Q0zPQeyZ8UC0WEU-IHRZ2QtRI1/s1600/2659044246_1eee77aa3a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaMh_G_M6n_moor8a4tJPIu7yj-7bJPEeK9gK4zFVGPlgnhpct3dHikpO0qqgGfa8v7F3d7VJqY1Y0dB5khaMxHnL3XgCsV8WghNenbEBECGalpWFbc0Q0zPQeyZ8UC0WEU-IHRZ2QtRI1/s400/2659044246_1eee77aa3a.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEqdZB20mzPFun6UgkuZ_wffShBOJC7yKyGesxX3TEaZ8ReD9reOc7Opm7-K3sGzHS3ico7UzHNoP6DQiAauyuoaPruFxxeXZz_W-9yZHj24Sfz76sFN6pkT5ZNbtyWqvWJbThY8cCEVfd/s1600/snowball-bushes-110661299361488neE.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEqdZB20mzPFun6UgkuZ_wffShBOJC7yKyGesxX3TEaZ8ReD9reOc7Opm7-K3sGzHS3ico7UzHNoP6DQiAauyuoaPruFxxeXZz_W-9yZHj24Sfz76sFN6pkT5ZNbtyWqvWJbThY8cCEVfd/s400/snowball-bushes-110661299361488neE.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><br />

Do you know how to care for them? Or what to do with them when Easter is over? Well now you will!</span></span><br />
<div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> No other plant is as symbolic of the holiday as colored eggs as the elegant Easter lily . If you're the lucky recipient of these gems, here's how to keep yours healthy and beautiful.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Remove the protective sleeve from the pot, because it can encourage root rot.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Set the plant in bright, indirect light, away from drafts. Keep the temperature at 60 to 65 degrees F during the day and slightly cooler at night.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> When plants bloom, remove the yellow anthers to prolong bloom life and prevent pollen from staining your clothes and skin. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Cut off spent blooms, and water when the surface is dry to the touch.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> When the plant has finished blooming, you can plant it outdoors. </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">Easter lilies are hardy to Zones 4 to 9. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Once danger of frost has passed, plant bulbs 4 to 6 inches deep and 12 to 18 inches apart in a spot where their roots will be in shade but their heads will be in the sun.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Ideal soil is well-drained soil and rich in organic matter. Cut yellowed stems and leaves back to the ground.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br />
<div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Easter lilies bloom in March only under controlled greenhouse conditions; in the garden, they will bloom in mid to late summer. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> You may be rewarded with a second bloom later the first year, but most likely you’ll have to wait until the following summer to see your lily bloom again.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Give lilies good winter protection: mulch with a thick layer of straw, pine needles, or leaves. Carefully remove the mulch in the spring to allow new shoots to come up.</span></div></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> How easy is that? Really easy. I hope this helped.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWiL25J8ts2UIeHS00hzbKoQbd-Xx3GOghPzc15TyyIcl-7uwJxSP8QLZ1nKK5TKkiSBDSVkgqSXcp4IxUfZB8pxGXjO544q-wJjXYj5pvKMf0lRIHFhitlrlWeDazCIKQRna5GhnWHBXE/s1600/easter_lilly.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="387" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWiL25J8ts2UIeHS00hzbKoQbd-Xx3GOghPzc15TyyIcl-7uwJxSP8QLZ1nKK5TKkiSBDSVkgqSXcp4IxUfZB8pxGXjO544q-wJjXYj5pvKMf0lRIHFhitlrlWeDazCIKQRna5GhnWHBXE/s400/easter_lilly.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><br />

Here in Indiana they are everywhere, and I love them so much! Even though when I was young I couldn't understand why they were called red bud instead of purple buds!</span><br />
<div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The buds are red but the blooms are purple,pink and white. Here's everything you wanted to know about them but were afraid to ask(hehe).</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The Redbud tree is a relatively small tree with spreading branches and a small short trunk.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Redbud trees bloom before the leaves appear which makes the flowers even more visible. The leaves are heart-shaped.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The Redbud is a poplar ornamental tree, which can be found in many gardens and planted near sidewalks. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br />
<div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The tree is one of the earliest flowering trees and is often used to add color to gardens.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The purple/ pink flowers of the eastern Redbud appear all over the tree in early spring.Forms a spreading, graceful crown.The flowers are even produced on large trunks. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> There is nothing more gorgeous in the spring than the graceful branches of the redbud tree outlined in glowing magenta-pink flowers.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The redbud is a small tree, suitable for even the most compact yards, providing spring color, summer shade and fall color too. </span></div></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br />
<div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Partial shade is preferred in windy, dry areas. It grows to twenty to thirty feet tall, thirty feet across. (zones 4-9) </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The Eastern Redbud tree, Cercis canadensis, is native to the eastern Untied States and may also be seen blooming in the woodlands in the spring. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> ( There are also redbud trees native to the West Coast of North America, China and southern Europe and Asia. The common name, Judas Tree, comes from the belief that Judas hung himself from a middle eastern redbud tree after betraying Christ.)</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> <b><i><u>How to grow and care for </u></i></b><b><i><u>Redbud's</u></i></b></span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The temptation for homeowners who see a redbud in bloom is to buy a large tree so they can enjoy the blooms sooner in their own yard. But small, potted redbud trees are the easiest to establish and spring dormant planting is best. </span></div><div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Trees grown from seed or cuttings of redbud trees growing in your area will adjust to your site more readily.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Redbud trees form a taproot and resent transplanting, so choose the location where you plant your redbud carefully.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> A tree shelter or tube helps redbud trees adapt to their new home and protects them from hungry animals. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Redbuds usually begin to bloom in their seventh year if conditions are to their liking. Redbuds can also be started from seed planted in the fall where they are to grow or in pots outside.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Although establishment may be slower than some other trees, and a little more care is required to get the redbud tree off to a good start, they are well worth the trouble.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> The redbud tree often begins growing as multiple stems from a small, short trunk. Trimming off all but one center stem will make the redbud look more like a tree and will avoid the problem of narrow crotches that split from winds or ice.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Other than early shaping of the tree and trimming off crossed or rubbing branches, the redbud will not need pruning.</span></div></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> <b><i><u>Canker and Verticillium Wilt</u></i></b> are the most likely disease that your Redbud tree will get.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Cankers begin as dark, sunken areas along the stems, and the area of limb beyond the canker will wilt and die. Canker areas should be pruned out; go at least one inch beyond the canker toward the trunk to make your cut and burn the pruned branch. Sterilize your pruning shears between each cut.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Verticillium causes parts of the tree to suddenly wilt, or some branches may have leaves that turn yellow on the edges and then brown and die. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> There is no cure for Verticillium, but pruning off affected branch and fertilizing the tree may keep it alive for a few more years. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Have the tree diagnosed by your county extension service before assuming it has Verticillium Wilt and removing it. </span></div></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Do not replant redbud trees where one has died from Verticillium Wilt as the disease remains in the soil for years.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh53qaQLhSOq02K0IIVsTKMXhFp96U8Z-YjqhwT6K8Q5k5Z22hyphenhyphenkU4QpgrF0ElxbeFQrUuyRHZVn83Kl7nbaK6H18JMcYWzWzcfAgP0oO14bPX4y0iVIbBZRp1kI4w-ycWlF_22kKN5KreH/s1600/eastern-redbud3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="327" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh53qaQLhSOq02K0IIVsTKMXhFp96U8Z-YjqhwT6K8Q5k5Z22hyphenhyphenkU4QpgrF0ElxbeFQrUuyRHZVn83Kl7nbaK6H18JMcYWzWzcfAgP0oO14bPX4y0iVIbBZRp1kI4w-ycWlF_22kKN5KreH/s400/eastern-redbud3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxkG_Asd3XDX21qJLWyYKlrkfibE_YqRQodXbhJPbwzvvxUaoZC0kCflpndBpk-HEKISoZovj1x0aeA81vJJKqbWU6cxzlRtOKTQDyAcDPc9kvPQ3bne2G6oUjETscF_87yCVZU7-UXWXH/s1600/redbud2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxkG_Asd3XDX21qJLWyYKlrkfibE_YqRQodXbhJPbwzvvxUaoZC0kCflpndBpk-HEKISoZovj1x0aeA81vJJKqbWU6cxzlRtOKTQDyAcDPc9kvPQ3bne2G6oUjETscF_87yCVZU7-UXWXH/s400/redbud2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1a1k6w2zIRbNuE3ReTKTQUne3huKaiK-teiHwu1rri4jg46FLmBtkc7IKoxf5qRNTscBO-0urw_o-C5ERAIgqC2pXOK5hvM-DV2_dfqF1ygVVTYxcj0zdrAe_fCv5LmRcTgpi3h-ncK1a/s1600/redbud-tree.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1a1k6w2zIRbNuE3ReTKTQUne3huKaiK-teiHwu1rri4jg46FLmBtkc7IKoxf5qRNTscBO-0urw_o-C5ERAIgqC2pXOK5hvM-DV2_dfqF1ygVVTYxcj0zdrAe_fCv5LmRcTgpi3h-ncK1a/s400/redbud-tree.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><br />

<span style="font-size: x-large;"> </span><b style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: xx-large;"><i>Sharing Our Woes & Our Wisdom</i></b><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;">“I’m a little bit of everything all rolled into one: I’m a bitch, I’m a lover, I’m a child, I’m a mother, I’m a sinner, I’m a saint. I do not feel ashamed.” </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> Meredith Brooks, “Bitch”</span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> Don’t you just love Meredith Brooks? She finally put us (women) in a song. Succinct. To the point. Accurate.</span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> For the most part, women are the caregivers of the world. And don’t think for one moment that the world could continue to revolve without us. </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> If we all went on strike at the same time, regardless of time zone, clearly the world would stop spinning. </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> As mothers, daughters, employees, grandmothers, partners, girlfriends, wives, and friends, we are generally taking care of other people. Being a caregiver is wonderful, satisfying, and fulfilling.</span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> And should there be no reciprocation or even a simple “thank you,” it doesn't matter, because caring for others feeds our souls. </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> This is not to say that we don’t have our bad days, ladies. You know, those days when you think, </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;">“Oh my god, I've lost my mind. Again.” </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> “Now, why did I think it was a good idea to get married?” </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;">“I must have been crazy to think I can start this business on my own.”</span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> “Remind me,” (as you stand in the midst of your screaming brood), “why the heck did I have these kids??” </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;">“What am I doing??? Who the hell do I think I am?”</span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> And after three sleepless nights in a row, battling the flu, doing the dishes while cupcakes are baking in the oven AND helping your eldest with her algebra (eeek!) homework, </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> “Why the f*ck did I volunteer to go into the office early tomorrow and prepare all the meeting handouts???” </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> These are just a few of the reasons why I thought it would be a fabulous idea to join a woman’s group, but not just any woman’s group.</span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> I joined <b><i><u><a href="http://www.woman2woman.freeforums.org/" target="_blank">Woman to Woman</a></u></i></b>, because I don’t just want to bitch about my day or listen to other women bitch, I want to share my day and hear other women share their day. </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> What I really want is a little more support in my life and I want to give a little more support to others…others who will appreciate it.</span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> Who doesn't need more of that in their lives? Plus (and this is a biggie!) it’s free. There are no charges to join <b><i><a href="http://www.woman2woman.freeforums.org/" target="_blank">Woman to Woman</a></i></b>. Zip. Nada. </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> What I found is a group of ladies who listen, care, are there for each other, and who appreciate YOU. </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> True, this is all happening in the “cyber” world, but a lot of us spend most of our time on the internet, anyway! </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> So among all your other “social networking,” why not spend some time in a safe place where you can can be yourself, whoever that may be today: bitch, lover, child, mother, sinner, or saint. And you don’t have to worry about feeling ashamed, because there’s no judgment here. </span><br />
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> We need that girl time to unwind, let loose, vent when the need arises, and give back to others, too. Share our woes and our wisdom. And that’s one of the things that we women do best…share.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> Isn't she great? Go by and and tell her how great her post is, <b><i><u><span style="color: #660000;"><a href="http://intricateknot.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"> http://intricateknot.blogspot.com </a></span></u></i></b></span><br />

To go a long with Spring and April showers I thought I'd tell you how we made cheap rain barrels.</span><br />
<div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> <b><i>Here are four ways to make a cheap rain barrel that won’t suck to look at every day.</i></b></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> You can buy 55 gallon barrels for about ten dollars (or check in with your county, mine was giving them away for free, limit two). </span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"></span><br />
<div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-large;"> 1.) Then we covered the barrels with old chicken wire we already had.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> And then we planted Morning Glory’s( one of my favorite vines, fast to grow, no need to fertilize, and the less water it gets the more it blooms) around the base so that they will grow around the wire and hide that ugly blue plastic. </span> You could also put potted flowers or plants on top to completely hide it!</span></div><br />
<div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Now we made one to catch the rain water from the roof and one is for over flow.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Do you know that one inch of rain water running off a thousand square foot roof produces six hundred gallons of water?</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">2.) Paint it with the spray paint that they have out to paint your plastic lawn furniture. You could do it in Terra Cotta and then put plants on top of it. Or paint it to match your house so it just blends in.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">3.) You could bury it in the ground leaving two to three inches above ground and put gravel or mulch around it.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;">4.) The other one I like a lot is using old wood to make it look like an old wine barrel.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Whatever way you choose to do it, decorated or leave it plain, this is something so easy and yet so important.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> There is no reason to waist our drinking water on plants that like dirty water.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> Mother nature and the Universe will thank you!</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><br />
</span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><br />

I can't help it they smell so good and are so easy to care for. That makes them double good!</i></span></span><br />
<div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Here's somethings you might not know about them:</i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i><br />
</i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Lilacs are low-maintenance shrubs. They offer good summer shade once they have reached several feet tall and they provide privacy.</i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Spring or fall is the best time for planting lilac bushes. Situate the lilac with its roots spread vertically in the ground and make the hole both deep and wide enough to accommodate them. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> If planting more than one lilac bush, space them at least five feet apart to prevent overcrowding, even if you plan to use them as hedges for privacy.</i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Lilacs do not like their feet wet for a long period of time. They do best on hillsides, slightly elevated areas, or level ground where there is good drainage. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Their roots run deep. If you have an extended dry period of drought, water infrequently but thoroughly. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> You do not need to provide fertilizer or organic feeding for your lilacs. Use a general-purpose fertilizer in early spring or one high in phosphorus to promote blooming. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Too much nitrogen in the soil will result in poor blooming. Repeat the use of a general-purpose fertilizer after the flowers have all died off. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> In Grandma’s day she used to spread her fireplace ashes around the drip line of her bush for bigger, better blooms.</i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Lilacs are clump forming, producing new shoots from the base of the trunk. These shoots can be used for starting new lilac bushes. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Dig down from the main clump, exposing the roots and cut the shoot away from the mother plant. Make sure you include roots. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Then simply plant the shoot in a suitable location, watering regularly until it takes hold.</i></span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><i> With just a little care and maintenance, and the knowledge of how to replenish the old wood with new shoots, the shrubs will last a lifetime.</i></span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"> <i><u> Reasons why your Lilac might not be blooming</u></i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"> <span style="font-style: italic; line-height: 115%;">There are a few reasons why a lilac may not be blooming. The most common reason for a lilac not blooming is a lack of sun. </span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="line-height: 115%;"> Lilac bushes that won’t bloom are usually planted in a location where they get enough sun to live, but not enough sun to bloom.</span></i></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="line-height: 115%;"> A lilac bush needs at least five hours of sun and preferably a full day of sun in order to be there very best.</span></i></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="line-height: 40px;"> The next reason that makes a lilac bush not flower is the way you pruned.</span></i></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="line-height: 40px;"> Lilacs do not need to be pruned, but if you prune it back hard in order to rejuvenate the bush, the lilac bush will take several years to recover.</span></i></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="line-height: 40px;"> Even light pruning, to shape the bush, can affect how well a lilac blooms. Pruning lilacs in late summer will cut away the wood that would have been the blooming wood for next year.</span></i></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"><i> <span style="line-height: 40px;">A third cause of lilac bushes that won’t bloom is too much nitrogen. Because of this, you should not fertilize your lilacs. </span></i></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="line-height: 40px;"> They don't need much in the way of nutrients and fertilizing can cause a lilac's to take up too much nitrogen, which keeps the lilac bush from blooming.</span></i></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="line-height: 40px;"> That includes fertilizing your lawn so try not to get it to clothes to your bushes.</span></i></span><span style="font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="line-height: 115%;"> See how easy they are? I swear you could ignore them completely and they would still be wonderfully beautiful!</span></i></span></span><br />

Hers's how to Grow Them!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <span style="font-size: x-large;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><i> Hello friends, I know I say this is my favorite all the time but well I love all my plant babies!Peonies hold a special place in my heart, I got mine from my mom, grandmother and mother-in-law. </i></span></span><br />
<div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> These plants will live through neglect, horrible dirt, tornado's you name it!</i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> How to Plant and care for Peonies</i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i><br />
</i></span></div><div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Peonies can live and thrive for decades, with minimal care. Peonies bloom in the late spring, but they do best when planted or transplanted in the fall. For the most part, planting peonies is pretty straight forward. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> However there are a few special needs peonies have, that are best accommodated at planting time. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> You need to decide where you want to plant them and then leave them there; they say that every time you move them it takes three years before they will look like they did before, I find this not true. Though I would suggest once you plant them leave them alone. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> I personally dig up mine every single time I move-Sorry but I do leave a behind tuberous root for the next family, usually!</i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Peonies can be transplanted as plants, but just as often you’ll be planting the tuberous roots. Either way, the peony root should contain at least three eyes. Peony eyes are small reddish buds, similar to the eyes of potatoes, that will eventually become stems.</i></span></div><div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> The reason for the rule of thumb of three eyes on each transplant is so that the tuber is large and strong enough to survive and bloom within a couple of years.</i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> A root with only one to two eyes will still grow, but it will take longer to mature enough to flower.</i></span></div></div><div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="line-height: 115%;"> </span><span style="line-height: 115%;"> </span><span style="line-height: 115%;">Plant with the eyes facing upwards and the roots spread out.<o:p></o:p></span></i></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="line-height: 31px;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> If you are planting in heavy, clay soil, amending with compost or a soil mix labeled for azaleas and rhododendrons, before planting, will make it easier for your peony plant to settle in. </i></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="line-height: 31px;"> Since peonies can remain in the same spot for upwards of 70 years, taking the time to prepare the soil before planting is time well spent.</span></i></span></div></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Peonies like a good chill in the winter. In order to set their flower buds, peony roots should be planted relatively close to the soil surface; only about two or three inches deep. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> It feels odd to leave roots so exposed, but peonies actually need this chilling to attain dormancy and to set buds.</i></span></div></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i></i></span><br />
<div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Give each peony plant enough space to grow to maturity without being crowded. That means about a three to four feet diameter for each plant. </i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i> Peonies are especially prone to gray mold when planted too closely and denied air flow between plants.</i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="text-decoration: inherit;"> </span><span style="color: #333333; line-height: 18px; text-decoration: inherit;">Peonies need at least six hours of sun each day and a full day of sun is even better. </span></i></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: x-large;"><i><span style="color: #333333; line-height: 18px; text-decoration: inherit;"> Without sufficient sunlight, you’re going to get less blooms and smaller flowers.
